Row on 5 is Jason Atherton’s flagship London restaurant, where Sorrells was commissioned to design and install a suite of bespoke wine storage solutions integrated throughout the venue. The project comprises five distinct features, each tailored to optimise storage conditions and enhance the overall guest experience, while complementing the interior design of the restaurant.
Champagne Room:
428 standard Champagne bottles
15 magnum bottles
Secret Door Display:
16 bottles
Domaine Romanée-Conti (DRC) Cabinet:
104 bottles
Main Wine Cellar:
1,800 bottles
Ambient Storage Area:
698 bottles
Custom 3D-formed hands securely holding individual bottles.
Burgundy barrel stave wall lining using reclaimed oak.
Illusion wall with mirrored backing and freestanding upright bottles held with leather straps.
Bespoke metal framework and doors manufactured in-house.
Bronze inlay detailing throughout.
Hendel & Hendel handles on doors.
The DRC cabinet features custom 3D-formed hands that securely cradle individual bottles. Developed through Sorrells’ in-house R&D, this design demonstrates a new level of bespoke craftsmanship. Each hand is precisely machined for a perfect fit, creating a striking visual feature while ensuring the safe storage of valuable fine wine.
The metal doors and framework were custom-made in-house, designed specifically for this space. Crafted from raw steel and left uncoated, they complement the restaurant’s dark grey palette. The bespoke nature of the design allowed Sorrells to meet the client’s exact requirements. The framework surrounds three walls, offering views from inside and outside the cellar.
Scallop racking is used to maximise bottle capacity and create storage in areas that might otherwise be unusable, such as the ambient cellar along the hallway. This racking allows bottles to lie horizontally, with labels facing outwards, enabling efficient storage in narrow spaces while maintaining easy visibility and access.
Angled racking is used to provide optimum storage while improving bottle visibility and presentation. This approach allows bottles to be stored at an angle, making labels easier to read and enhancing display impact. In the ambient cellar, angled racking maximises space and facilitates convenient access in a narrow corridor setting.

The wine storage installation at Row on 5 is divided into five individual zones, each with a specific function and tailored design:
A dedicated space constructed from solid oak with brass rod inlays and gold mirror backing. The room holds 428 standard Champagne bottles and 15 magnums. A ceiling-mounted Sorrells temperature control system maintains the room at 13–16°C, ideal for wines that are ready to serve, distinct from the long-term fine wine storage conditions provided in the DRC Cabinet.
A mirror-backed wine display that conceals a door leading to a private dining room. The design features single upright bottle holders secured with leather straps, with integrated lighting creating an illusion of depth and enhancing the restaurant’s interior.
A bespoke cabinet designed specifically for storing and displaying fine Burgundy. It holds 104 bottles, each securely supported by Sorrells-developed 3D-formed hands. The cabinet is temperature controlled to maintain an optimal environment for long-term fine wine preservation. Side panels are clad in reclaimed Burgundy wine barrel slats, naturally stained from red wine, complementing the burgundy rouge interiors.
This cellar forms the walls of a private dining area designed for larger parties. Manufactured in-house by Sorrells, the structure features a custom metal framework and Hendel & Hendel handles. It serves as the ultimate display for the restaurant’s broader wine collection and also functions as the sommelier’s office, combining operational efficiency with a striking visual impact.
The ambient storage area makes use of an otherwise unusable corridor space. Through innovative design, scallop racking on one side and varied cabinet styles on the other allowed Sorrells to create efficient wine storage within this narrow area. The cellar includes six double-depth ambient cabinets with bulk storage drawers below, one angled magnum section with a drawer below, and one single-depth cabinet with a drawer below. This zone holds 698 bottles and provides accessible storage for wines that do not require temperature control.
