As part of a carefully considered interior enhancement, Harry’s Bar in Billericay appointed Sorrells to design and craft a single, bespoke wine wall, intended to act as both a functional display and a refined architectural feature within the venue’s main service area.
Positioned as a central display within the restaurant, the wine offers much requested storage, along with a grand visual display. The joinery is constructed from a pairing of solid ash and oiled black walnut, a material combination chosen to introduce warmth, contrast, and textural depth.
Designed to feel embedded in the interiors of the venue, the installation balances everyday practicality with thoughtful detailing, demonstrating how bespoke wine display can quietly enhance a hospitality environment without overpowering it.
The wine wall is built in solid ash, selected for its light tone and clean grain, with inlaid accents of oiled black walnut to introduce richness and contrast. The two materials work in harmony, allowing the piece to sit comfortably within the wider palette of soft finishes and dark highlights found throughout the bar’s interior.
Storage is arranged using a majority of standard and angled racking, as well as some shelving for display, finished with secure doors. Angled racking, a popular option for hospitality venues, allows bottles to rest securely with labels facing forward, ideal for efficient service and guest visibility. The layout is simple, structured, and balanced, supporting both the practical requirements of the team and the aesthetic ambitions of the space.
Warm, dimmable LED lighting is integrated throughout the joinery, providing soft illumination that enhances the timber’s grain while drawing focus to the wine selection. The lighting creates a gentle sense of theatre behind the bar, reinforcing the quality and care that defines the guest experience at Harry’s.
This project is a clear example of how material choice, proportion, and purpose can elevate even the most practical elements of a hospitality space. The result is a wine wall that supports service, frames the room, and reflects the tone of the venue it was designed for confident, composed, and crafted to last.
