A large proportion of the design features standard racking, for optimal storage of the space. Where required, scallop racking creates additional storage in narrow spaces. Storage has been tailored around the client’s collection, which includes a significant number of wines stored by the case. To support this, we integrated soft-close drawers, allowing each box to be stored securely while remaining easily accessible.
In addition to bottle and case storage, bespoke shelving was introduced to house the client’s growing cognac collection. Large-format display bays give standout bottles a place of prominence, while champagne is stored on illuminated acrylic rods, adding a subtle modern contrast and a focal point within the room.
At its centre, a custom walnut tasting table offers both storage and a natural gathering point, turning the cellar from a purely functional space into one that encourages conversation and enjoyment. This is a wine cellar defined by craftsmanship, proportion, and purpose. Every element has been considered, every finish deliberate—reflecting Sorrells’ commitment to intelligent design that enhances the way people live with wine.
Welcome to the exquisite world of wine in Basel, Switzerland, where an exclusive wine cellar project has been meticulously designed to house and age the client’s remarkable collection.
The focal point of the cellar is a stunning central table, carefully constructed for wine pouring and tastings. Below the table, discreet storage spaces are cleverly integrated, offering a convenient solution for organising additional bottles and cases. This central gathering spot becomes the heart of the cellar, where friends and wine enthusiasts can gather to savour the fruits of time and craftsmanship.
A feature wall of scallop racking has been incorporated into the design. This unique racking system not only showcases the bottles but also proudly exhibits their labels. The labels themselves become art, recounting the stories and histories of the cherished vintages.
The central back wall continues the theme of label display with angled racking, ensuring that each bottle receives the admiration it deserves. Glass shelves serve a dual purpose, not only accommodating spirits and wine accessories but also reflecting the warm ambiance of the cellar.
Every detail of the cellar has been thoughtfully considered, including specially designed bottle holes to accommodate the diverse array of wine shapes and sizes. From the majestic 8 Double Champagne magnums to the meticulously collected 42 Magnums, the cellar gracefully embraces the 12 Champagne bottles and 26 half bottles.
