Set within the historic Holland & Holland Shooting Grounds in Northwood, this bespoke wine wall was commissioned as part of a broader enhancement of the venue’s dining and hospitality offering. Renowned for its world-class shooting facilities, elegant lodge, and refined British heritage, the Shooting Grounds required a wine display that would sit comfortably within its traditional surroundings while reflecting the same level of craftsmanship and understated luxury for which the brand is known.
Sorrells was appointed to design and manufacture a fully bespoke oak wine wall, tailored to the space and crafted to enhance the experience of guests dining and entertaining on-site. Positioned within one of the lodge’s key social spaces, the wine wall is more than a storage solution, it is an architectural feature that reinforces the tone of the room and the traditions of the estate.
Designed to quietly command attention, the installation provides a seamless blend of practical storage, refined materiality, and heritage sensitivity, a natural fit for a location where detail, discipline, and British craftsmanship take centre stage.
This bespoke oak wine wall sits center stage within the private dining room at Holland & Holland Shooting Grounds, acting as both a functional cellar and a refined architectural focal point. The design was carefully developed around the restaurant’s wine list, with particular emphasis on showcasing bottles from Château Rauzan-Ségla, a Bordeaux estate within the wider corporate portfolio, and a natural feature in the Shooting Grounds’ cellar.
Sorrells was selected for this project not only for our bespoke capability, but because of our shared values with Holland & Holland: a commitment to British craftsmanship, a respect for tradition, and an ability to deliver timeless solutions that enhance heritage spaces. This alignment allowed for a design that integrates beautifully with the building’s architectural fabric, while also supporting the day-to-day demands of wine service.
The wine wall is constructed in solid oak, with classic detailing and a rich dark finish that sits in harmony with the surrounding interiors. Elements such as reeded glass, soft-close drawers, and dimmable LED lighting contribute to an atmosphere of quiet elegance, supporting a sense of intimacy within the dining space while elevating the presence of the wine itself.
Drawers were custom-built to house original cases of Château Rauzan-Ségla, allowing these prized boxes to be stored securely while remaining easily accessible. Large-format display bays were also incorporated, giving prominence to significant bottles and adding rhythm to the racking layout. Along the glazed side panels, acrylic rods provide additional bottle storage, designed to maximise capacity without visually obstructing the view into or through the space.
The result is a wine wall that feels entirely of its setting, deeply considered, architecturally sympathetic, and crafted to endure. It reflects Sorrells’ approach at its core: designing with intelligence, detail, and purpose, in a way that enhances the experience of the space and the collection it holds.
