The two wine walls were designed with symmetry and functionality in mind, each tailored to its location, yet unified by shared materials, lighting, and finish.
Inside, both cellars feature soft, dimmable LED lighting, casting a warm glow that gently highlights the wine collection without overwhelming the room. Each cellar uses a combination of scallop racking along the outer walls to maximise capacity in narrow zones, and acrylic rod racking on the opposing walls to provide a clean, floating aesthetic that maintains a sense of lightness within the joinery.
Functionally, the two spaces are differentiated: one cellar includes drawers for individual bottles, while the other provides dedicated storage for wine cases; a decision informed by the client’s varied collection and how they use the space day to day.
Though not temperature-controlled, the wine walls sit within a naturally stable area of the home, making them ideal for short- to medium-term storage and regular access. The use of Havana black joinery not only frames the collections beautifully but reinforces the connection between the wine walls and the home’s broader interior palette, bridging the gap between heritage charm and contemporary living.
This project is a clear example of Sorrells’ ability to design with purpose, detail, and respect for context, delivering elegant wine storage that belongs wholly to its environment.
