Cark Manor, Cumbria

Project Overview

Cark Manor is a period property in the Lake District operating as a luxury hotel. As part of its hospitality offering, the hotel commissioned Sorrells to design and build a bespoke wine cellar to house its collection and create a space for guest interaction.

The joinery is made from solid oak, finished with a light oil to retain the timber’s natural tone and grain. The room features standard bottle racking across all main wall sections, with a row of angled display shelves to showcase select wines.

The layout was designed to be practical for hotel operations and also to serve as a talking point for guests. The space can be used for private tastings or simply to provide a closer look at the wines on offer.

Soft integrated lighting provides functional illumination without affecting storage conditions. The result is a clean, organised wine cellar that aligns with the hotel’s interior character while improving the overall guest experience.

  • 1,002 standard bottles
  • 48 Champagne bottles
  • 144 bottles within their original cases
  • 6 magnum display bottles

With an emphasis on a prestige wine list, Cark Manor wanted an optimal wine storage solution, thus came to Sorrells.
